SmackDown! “Quoting You, Mr. Undertaker"

Though the episodes are the reruns of the Tuesday evening show, but instances are there when Smackdown wrestling has been broadcasted live. Launched first in 1999, SmackDown was scheduled for Thursday nights until in 2005, it occupied the Friday night slot and was named Friday Night SmackDown for reflecting the change. But what was planned to showcase the WWF Divas (now known as Smackdown Divas) in primetime TV turned to a complementary show to RAW is WAR, though it posed as a great threat to WCW Thunder.

The original WWE Smackdown theme differed vastly from the RAW is WAR theme; instead of letting a band perform the music, the WWF mixed techno and rock to create the fast-paced theme. However, the most recent WWE Smackdown theme was Rise Up (by Drowning Pool), of which, three different recordings were made, the latest version being Rise Up 2006, featured as a bonus track on the album WWE Wreckless Intent.

WWE RAW used to be broadcasted on free-to-air networks, but the poor timeslots earned the program a poor rating. However, in 2000, WWE RAW started on Fox Sports on Tuesday nights and was followed by SmackDown! Two years later, the WWE broadcasts were moved to FOX8 and in an effort to prevent fans from hunting WWE Smackdown spoilers on the Internet, FOX8 rescheduled WWE programming closer to their United States airdate timeslots.

A look at any industry shall find women to be an integral part of it and SmackDown! Wrestling is also no exception; Carmen Electra being the head honcho for the WWE offshoot NWWL, the list continues and in 2006, WWE’s search for Smackdown! Divas became a featured item of the SmackDown Brand. The term Diva is used by WWE for the female on-screen talents and span a range covering valets, backstage interviewers, ring announcers and the women wrestlers. The popularity of the WWE Divas has made possible several cross-promotions ranging from Playboy to WWE commercials, but apart from bringing in the dough through their beauties, the Smackdown Divas have also become prominent personalities by sheer performance alone; evident from the Smackdown wrestling figures available at almost every toy shop (online or traditional), the legacy of the Smackdown wrestling men and divas continue with the promise of exquisite performances in the days to come.
